For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any double-edged sword, piercing even to the point of dividing soul from spirit, and joints from marrow; it is able to judge the desires and thoughts of the heart. — Hebrews 4:12
Are you listening to what God is saying to you?
Do the words bring life? God wants to be with us, and make us new. His love has brought us forgiveness and His Spirit brings us the power to be transformed. When God speaks it may be to convict us, but He will never condemn us. It may cut right through us, but only to bring us to a better place and fuller understanding of His love.
Are the words active and energized, and do they inspire and give strength to do good things? God is enthusiastic about who we are and what we should be doing. His word will make us excited to love others, and give us boldness to carry out good works. When we get tired, or those things are difficult, His word encourages and gives us strength to keep at it.
Do the words move through our heart and mind so that our own thoughts and motives are revealed? God wants us to understand who we are. We have selfishly tried to ignore Him, filled with our own wrongs and desires. But all of that is now gone through His forgiveness and the way in which the Holy Spirit changes us. We can see ourselves clearly, as God sees us. We are His children, incredibly loved and given wonderful abilities and talents that reflect His creativity and goodness.
Are you listening to all that God has to say? The word of God is right here for us.
