If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. — 1 John 1:9
All of us have a problem-
God is righteous, and we are not. Our very nature is the opposite of His. We act and think and respond in ways contrary to His ways. We need forgiveness and we need to be changed.
God wants us to be honest with Him. Honest about our actions and honest about ourselves. We don’t need to just confess our sins, we need to admit we are sinners.
All of the wrong things we have done have been forgiven because of the death and resurrection of Jesus. He also changes who we are and He takes away our unrighteousness, the ways in which we are opposite to Him. God deals with our sin, and He deals with us as sinners. He forgives us and he cleanses us. God loves us and wants to be with us, and wants us to be all the things He created us to be.
When we place our trust in Jesus, God changes us. We may still do wrong and make mistakes, but we have an immediate way back to our Father. By simply confessing we return to His love and forgiveness.
All our sin and guilt have already been taken care of by Jesus. How wonderful to be able to admit our failures, when we know we have already been forgiven! He is faithful.
