Do you believe? by Small Voice Today

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?” — John 11:25–26

How can simply believing be so life-changing? What is faith that it can be so powerful?

Faith means that we are confident in what we believe. But how do we gain that certainty? We travel down many different paths. Some of us believed because we read God’s Word and it touched us. Some may have found their faith as a response to intellectual pursuits. Some heard a sermon or the testimony of a friend. Some may have encountered an unexplainable, perhaps miraculous, event in their life. The important thing is that we believe that Jesus is the Son of God and has died and risen from the dead to forgive our sins.

We are not obliged to have a certain experience, or not have one. Faith does not require either intellect or ignorance. We don’t have to be in a certain place, say certain words, or follow certain rituals. We simply believe. The power of faith is that God treats us all as individuals and comes to us where we are with what we need.

Jesus walked up to some people fishing and said, “ Follow me. “ He came to Paul in a flash of light. He offered to show Thomas the scars on His hands. Others were told of His love and believed in remarkably undramatic ways. Some were children, some were scholars, some were lepers, some were poor, some were slaves, some were rich, some were rulers.

Some were just people going about their daily chores getting water from a well, and Jesus said “believe in me.” The power of faith is that the One we believe in is powerful. He finds us, He meets us were we are and gives us what we need. Do you believe?
