He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” — Psalm 46:10

God is all-powerful and that should be enough to cause us to stand with our mouths open.

We are taken back by God’s awesomeness and His creation. Perhaps we are a bit frightened and feel very small as we think about the maker of all things. But God loves us. His overwhelming presence should not scare or alarm us, but cause us to feel comforted and protected. “Be still.” Relax, let go of your anxiety. Let go of trying so hard.

We worry for the future, for our needs, for improbable things that might happen. Our anxiety is like a noise that keeps us from hearing God clearly. The anxiety turns to uncertainty, and then we are filled with the clamor of more doubts and uneasiness.

At those times we need to stop for a moment and return to our amazement with God’s power. He not only can do anything, He is constantly using that power to watch over us and protect us. Returning to that sense of awe is when we can start to relax, knowing His tenderness for us stands regardless of our apprehensions. And we quiet the noise of our doubts with the calm of His love. The almighty maker of all things loves us. Stop for a moment and think about that. Be still…
