love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control — small voice today

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. — Galatians 5:22–23

Let’s rejoice at the way God’s Spirit works in our thoughts and hearts!

Christians are often seen as followers of rules: don’t do this and this and this. The Bible does say there are certain things which are wrong. God tells us we avoid those behaviors not by feeling guilty about them or constantly judging ourselves and others, but by replacing them with something better. We can try all we want in our…

Jesus is always with us | Small Voice Today

Teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age. — Matthew 28:20

Sometimes when we talk about a friend or relative who has passed away we speak about them “still being with us.” We recall things they said or did and we remember times we had with them. Our memories contain feelings and emotions as well as reminiscence. They are with us in our thoughts, but also in our hearts because of the depth of our memories.

I am sure the disciples had similar thoughts when…

Working for the Lord | Small Voice Today

Whatever you are doing, work at it with enthusiasm, as to the Lord and not for people, because you know that you will receive your inheritance from the Lord as the reward. Serve the Lord Christ. — Colossians 3:23–24

Be enthusiastic about whatever you are doing!

All that we do, all of our time and talents, are gifts from God.

When you love someone you look for ways to please them. You take joy in giving them joy. Things that seem dreary or difficult are transformed. …

He will shelter you | Small Voice Today

He will shelter you with his wings; you will find safety under his wings. His faithfulness is like a shield or a protective wall. — Psalm 91:4

What makes you feel safe?

You might have a wall or fence, strong locks on your doors, or even some kind of weapon. You might have a security system or army of bodyguards. Your house could be flood-proof, fire-proof and built to withstand earthquakes. You might have a bomb shelter or panic room.

All of us want to feel safe from harm or danger. Some people think they stay safe by trying to…

The riches of God | Small Voice Today

And my God will supply your every need according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus. — Philippians 4:19

How much does God own?

Everything. This answers whether He is able to meet our needs!

God’s riches are glorious and infinite, for He is the maker of all things. They reflect who He is, our creator and loving Father. If we begin to think about all of what God has made and all of who He is it can overwhelm us. We can barely appreciate even a small part of God’s creation.

But then Jesus! By becoming a man and…

For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any double-edged sword, piercing even to the point of dividing soul from spirit, and joints from marrow; it is able to judge the desires and thoughts of the heart. — Hebrews 4:12

Are you listening to what God is saying to you?

Do the words bring life? God wants to be with us, and make us new. His love has brought us forgiveness and His Spirit brings us the power to be transformed. When God speaks it may be to convict us, but He will never condemn us

The gift of God — Small Voice Today

For by grace you are saved through faith, and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God; it is not from works, so that no one can boast. — Ephesians 2:8

What is a gift?

It is something that is given to us, an item or a favor; presented to us without any thought of whether we deserve it or not. We don’t earn a gift, because then it would be a payment and not a gift. It does not require anything of us afterwards, or again it would not be a gift.

With a gift, all…

God is faithful | Small Voice Today

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. — 1 John 1:9

All of us have a problem-

God is righteous, and we are not. Our very nature is the opposite of His. We act and think and respond in ways contrary to His ways. We need forgiveness and we need to be changed.

God wants us to be honest with Him. Honest about our actions and honest about ourselves. We don’t need to just confess our sins, we need to admit we are sinners.

Rest in the shadow | Small Voice Today

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. — Psalm 91:1

Let the Lord protect you!

God has a place to keep us safe. In other Psalms it is referred to as God’s tent, as a hiding place, and as God’s dwelling. It is His shelter for us from enemies and adversity and temptations. Through faith we reside under His protection. But we are not simply living somewhere in safety, we have God as our companion!

Our security is because we are children of the Maker of all things, and each…

I know God | Small Voice Today

But God demonstrates his own love for us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. — Romans 5:8

When is the last time you used the word “sin”?

We don’t use the word sin very often. It is uncomfortable to talk about. We like to say, “doing wrong” or “breaking a rule”. But sin is deeper than that.

God is loving, merciful and gracious. He has given us ways to live in order to help us understand those things, which are part of His nature and character. Sin is the opposite.

It makes sense that if…
